Brilliantly Bold

Make a statement. Make a feature. Make a home.
This month we’re diving into the leading trend of Maximalism coursing through homes all around the world. Hold onto your hats for some vivid pops of colour & layers of bold patterns and prints that will definitely knock your socks off!

We all know the minimalist, Scandinavian, bright and white home look. It has been engrained into home interiors for years and years. But have you heard of the most recent trend dubbed ‘Maximalism’? More is more. Obsessive with the excessive. The complete opposite of minimalism!

The trend has emerged in a very loud and proud way, splashing colourful prints up and down walls, across the floorboards in textured pattern rugs along with the most intricately woven cushions covered in tassels and more.

We’ve joined the movement and we’re so excited to light up our homes with all the things!

Check out all of these items from our retailers that can contribute to the beginning (or to your current) of your Maximalism journey.

Statements galore

Making a statement in your home is easier than you think! Whether it be a piece of furniture, wall art in the entryway, a fun rug (or rugs!), a bold wall colour or even a statue, it only takes a little bit of effort.

A major part of Maximalism is combining contrasting patterns and trends, to make a harmonious mix of style. Talk about a statement!

If you’re into florals, the Giselle Designer Chair from Oz Design Furniture is the perfect statement piece. Covered in their Hinterland Spring patterned fabric, you can pair it with a more subtle pop of colour cushion, or if you’re willing to go all out, an animal print cushion and boldly coloured throw. Make it yours!

Rise & Shine

The bathroom is one of the first places that we visit in the morning, so making it a place where we can feel refreshed and ready to rise and shine is important.

We’ve curated this collection of items, featuring an art deco inspired wallpaper from Bunnings Warehouse. With a metallic finish to reflect that morning light, it’ll cast a beautiful glow on everything else as you’re getting ready for the day. Add a contrasting style of wall art for interest and mix & match countertop accessories for added fun.

A standout product that catches our eye is the bath mat from Adairs, really achieving the jarring pattern and texture combo intended.

What’s cooking good looking?

Cooking after a long day can feel tedious and chore-like, unless you make your kitchen a bright oasis to inspire and lift your mood! Think yellows and greens in likeness of a zesty citrus fruit to kickstart your creative juices in the most unlikely of times.

With a mustard and turquoise colour palette, this collection for your kitchen is bursting with bright energy and will surely lift any neutral space. Take the bar stool for example, with a velvet and gold finish, it’s a furniture piece that will elevate your room in an instant.

Gold cutlery is an added novelty if you’re all about the Maximalist look as well as feel. You want to feel like you’re making a statement in everything you do! Go for the gold set. It’ll be worth it.

Style Tip

There’s a fine line between hoarding and curating. When it comes to Maximalism, you want to fit in as  much as you can within stylistic reason. A lot of things in a space doesn’t always mean chaos, but it can certainly turn out that way if you’re not careful about collecting the right pieces for your Maximalist journey.

If you’re unsure about how to add more layers to your furniture and floors, go up the walls instead. Invest in a bunch of different sized frames from Harvey Norman or Spotlight and fill them with cheap prints downloaded from Pinterest or the Etsy! You’ll be making a gallery wall that achieves a really fun and unique feature in your home!
